Everybody is aware of the food guide pyramid because when we were kids we have all been taught about it in our nutrition class. The food guide pyramid consists of the basic dietary guidelines which we need to follow to lead a healthy life. This pyramid has been around for ages but ironically today more and more Americans are overweight.

This might make you think that the food guide pyramid wasn’t really helpful. Or probably the reason is that people are not following the dietary guidelines. Whatever be the case overhauling the old food pyramid was necessary. Therefore the United States Department of Agriculture has created the MyPyramid.

The MyPyramid is a personalized tool which helps in making correct diet choices. The new food pyramid has something for everybody – for people who are overweight and even for those who are already making healthy choices.

MyPyramid acknowledges the fact that not everybody is the same and understands that some people need to eat more while others have to eat less. The pyramid provides personalized guidelines to suit your lifestyle. This means that now people don’t need to go to a dietician, MyPyramid is all that you need.

The Features of the New Food Pyramid Include:

Calorie Counting

The pyramid stresses on keeping a count on the calories that we intake. Keeping a count makes us realize how much we are eating and thus helps us know when we have deviated from the plan. The food pyramid advices people to use foods high in sugar and fat sparingly and also stresses on increasing the consumption of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Protein consumption should be limited to lean meats and non-meat sources. The pyramid also advices to keep varying the types of fruits you eat so that things don’t become boring.

Exercise

Exercise is extremely essential if a person wishes to lead a healthy and life. Therefore the new food guide pyramid asks people to incorporate exercise into their lifestyles. Tips have been provided on how to get started and how much exercise will provide results.

Personal Plan

The new food guide pyramid essentially consists of 12 separate pyramids. This helps is catering to the needs to people of different age groups and lifestyles. You just have to provide your age, gender and activity level and the MyPyramid will offer a personalized eating plan.

Provides Options

It has been understood that it will not be easy for everybody to make all of the changes that have been advised. Therefore alternatives have also been provided. For example if you are finding it difficult to consume milk products then you are given the option to have soy products and leafy greens instead. This way you will be getting enough calcium even without consuming milk.

It will be hard for you to make all the changes in one go. Therefore you are advised to take one step at a time so that in the long run you would have easily switched to a healthy lifestyle. In the beginning you can also make use of diet pills like Phentermine and Xenical. You will require talking to a doctor before using these drugs as a prescription will be required. These diet pills are actually appetite suppressants so while you are using Phentermine you won’t feel that hungry. You will manage to reduce you calorie intake because while using Phentermine you won’t feel the need to eat again and again and also be satisfied by eating smaller amounts. This will help you to slowly regain control over your diet and lead a healthy life.

Week 10 AP Rankings Could Shift BCS Rankings

The week 6 AP Poll has a few new members. The week 6 Top 25 AP Poll still has Florida as the #1 team in the nation, but there was also a change in the top five teams. Despite Boise State winning again, they fell to #6 as the Virginia Tech Hokies jumped up to #5 in the week 6 AP Poll. It doesn't really seem like it should be that way though, as Virginia Tech only had to beat Duke, but apparently Duke is getting more respect as a football team than in the past. Virginia Tech does have a loss too, making it even more odd that they are up to #5, but fans of the Hokies may turn to their wins over Miami and Nebraska as a reason that Virginia Tech should be this high in the polls.

The biggest jump of the week 6 AP Poll was that of Auburn, which was not ranked last week, but appears at #17 in this week's AP Top 25. That is a huge jump, and has the 5-0 Auburn team back on the college football map. Good for them, because they have been fighting very hard to get back to the Top 25 AP teams. They aren't the only new teams to appear in the week 6 AP Poll either, as South Florida (5-0), Missouri (4-0), and South Caroline (4-1) are all ranked again. The honor of having the biggest drop in the polls goes to Oklahoma, who find themselves down at #19 after losing to Miami over the weekend. It's still pretty remarkable that Oklahoma is ranked that high with a 2-2 record and no chance at the National Championship. It's also not a very deserving ranking for the team, and seems to be a result of one particular high profile player.

The top of the week 6 AP Poll looks a bit familiar, as Florida has retained the #1 spot with 54 first place votes. The other first place votes went to Texas (1) and Alabama (5), who are in the ranks as #2 and #3. Meanwhile LSU is still sitting at #4, seemingly just waiting their turn, and showing that the SEC is indeed an extremely powerful conference this season. Those are the teams that had good weeks, and there were a number that had terrible weeks. Four teams fell out of the AP Top 25, including former #12 Houston, Georgia, Michigan, and California. For Michigan and California, it seems that those two teams were finally outed for being pretenders this season, and have a lot of work in front of them to get back to respectability. Florida is still the king of the land though, and if nobody knocks them off, they could have a clear route to the National Championship game.

The Week 6 AP Poll

1. Florida
2. Texas
3. Alabama
4. LSU
5. Virginia Tech
6. Boise State
7. USC
8. Cincinnati
9. Ohio State
10. TCU

Do You Feel Lonely Today?

Whether you are having company at your house or a guest in someone else's it is important to make people feel welcome. A mark of a friendly, kind, warm person is their ability to make others feel at easy and valued. Many people feel intimidated when meeting someone new or going somewhere with a lot of people. As a friendly person, you can make the experience easier for them.

The first step to making other people feel welcome is monitoring your facial expressions. Insecure or uncomfortable people tend to analyze the facial expressions of the people around them, and can easily interpret a regular facial expression as a hostile one. Be sure to make your face appear friendly. Soften your features, and when you make eye contact with the person, smile. A smile is difficult to ignore, it is hard to see someone smile at you and not smile back.

Next, take note of your body language. You should look open and friendly, not standoffish. If your body is turned away from someone, you can look disinterested. If your arms are crossed in front of you, instead of at your sides or in your lap, you can look unfriendly. Be sure to have an open stance with your body and your arms. Body language is a very important form of communication.

Finally, take an interest in the person. Someone is much more likely to feel welcomed if the people around them are friendly. Start a conversation, ask questions, and truly listen to the answers. Not only is it an opportunity to get to know someone, it is also a chance for you to make a friend, and practice your social skills.

If you are unsure about exactly what to do, pay attention the next time you are in a social situation. Recognize the actions of the people who make you feel welcome and the people who don't. In future situations, mimic the actions of the people you found welcoming. It is very easy to change your behavior once you have a goal. Put yourself in the other person's shoes, and think about what you need in order to feel welcomed, and then provide it.

It is very easy to make people feel welcome if you are hosting an event of some sort. When you are hosting is your job to put others at ease and your natural reaction is to make others feel welcome. But when you are a guest at a gathering, it can be more difficult to make another guest feel welcome. Remember, you are not trying to take the place of the host, you are just trying to put people at ease, like you would want them to do for you.

I am new to AC and, as far as I can tell, I’m not on anyone’s list of favorites nor am I one of the most read, most e-mailed, or most forgotten contributors. When I saw the interview a content producer mail I thought I would seize the opportunity to interview myself and maybe win a few more readers over. It’s not so much narcissistic as promotional. I didn’t want to be presumptuous and give you a biography so I used the questions given. I hope you enjoy it and will come by my CP page from time to time to see what I’m up to.

What really inspires you to write? When every my son does something blatantly and unabashedly ridiculous.

What is the one thing that draws you to the computer and really gets your fingers moving on an article? I usually think about something for a few hours or overnight before I sit down to type. Most of it is formulated in my mind and it just flows out. If I just sit down and start typing it takes forever to gather everything together. Aside from that the things that inspire me to write need organization and to be thought through if they are going to be coherent.

So how did you get into writing? They made me do it in school when I was 8.

Tell us one thing about yourself that people might not know. I’m an open book, what good is keeping a secret? In the grand scheme of things what is it worth? I’m goofy and klutzy and I like disco and The Carpenters.

What has been your greatest success in life? Finding a man who can stand to be married to me.

What goals are you trying to achieve with your writing? I want other people to read my things and be able to relate to them. I want them to see their kids or think the craft they created is really cool. I want them to laugh and lighten the burden of their day if only for the five minutes it takes to read my article.

If you were trapped on an island alone what 3 things could you not live without? Assuming I have food, shelter and clothing…a radio that would work in perpetuity. An endless supply of bug spray because, yech! Soap.

Name 5 songs that you would include on your personal life soundtrack. In no particular order and in no particular reason other than they make me smile: Living On A Prayer, Bon Jovi. Days Go By, Keith Urban. Fur Elise, Beethoven. Pride And Joy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Prozac, Bellevue Cadillac.

What actor would you want to play you in your life story and why? Someone unknown. It would be their breakout roll. They’d have to break out all over the place, fall down some stairs, get yanked off their feet by the dog, backed over by a milk truck while in a parked car… it’s not a role for the faint of heart…oh yeah and then there’s the whole heart thing…

What made you start writing for Associated Content? I searched for something and an article from AC popped up. I decided to check out the site and then I decided to try one of my stories and see what happened. My friends are always telling me I have a talent for it so I thought I’d see if anyone else thought so too.

What color best describes your personality and why? Pink. Pink everything. Pink clothes, pink socks, pink shoes, pink birthstone. My favorite foods are a hue of pink. Even my dog is a little pink looking. It’s not over powering or obnoxiously loud, its pretty and warm and it makes me feel happy. I’m not a psycho about it though, my hair is not pink, not everything in my closet is pink, and the dog only looks pink because she is swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool.
